President's Message

Hello Everyone,

The Square Pond Improvement Association (SPIA) is a registered 501(3)(c) non-profit organization, established in 1958. Our organization is staffed by volunteers from around the lake and is supported by member dues and generous donations.

Protecting water quality remains a top priority. The SPIA Water Quality Committee monitors lake water quality using recognized standard methods. The Invasive Plant Patrol provides ongoing inspections of the shoreline, keeping a watchful eye for non-native vegetation and offers valued plant identification training to the residents. We collaborate with many local partners such as: Acton Shapleigh Youth Conservation Corp, Lake Stewards of Maine, York County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Towns of Acton and Shapleigh, and Maine DEP to improve and maintain the water quality of Square Pond for the benefit of the residents and towns.

SPIA is proud to promote good stewardship of our beloved lake so many generations to come will be able to enjoy its recreational and therapeutic qualities.
